That would be a task for Walter (KQ), as he is the one who knows the region best. But I suppose it is possible. If there is a flight club, there must be some kind of parking available (at least a bit of green gras). But you should expect that African airspace is a bit different to the one in the States. Bit more unpredictable I would say, especially when ATC does no speak English that well...
Cheers,

Hi Erik,
Welcome to the forum. Hope you will register soon.
I hope I can be of help with most of your questions. Yes, you can buy a plane in NBO and fly it to Burundi. The hub of GA aviation in NBO is at Wilson Airport (busier than Jomo Kenyatta International in terms of Take-offs and Landings). There are usually GA aircraft on lease or on sale at any given time.
The Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority's web-page should be a good resource for you:
www.kenyacivilaviation.or.ke
Unfortunately, I do not have first hand info on the GA community and scene in Burundi. I cannot be of much assistance concerning the availability of hangar space etc. However, you could look through the Aero Club of East Africa web-page and peruse the posted articles. There is a lot of information on the GA in the region. You will particulalry find interesting information on recent requirements by the Tanzanian Cicil Aviation Authority (since you will need to overfly Tanzanian Airspace on your way to Burundi)
http://www.aeroclubea.net/
However, we shall undertake more research on Burundi GA Scene and post more info as soon as we find some. I have asked some GA pilots in Kenya
You will also need to get accustomed to different English Accents than you are used to as you cross between the airspace of different countries. Be sure to counter-check instructions you receive.
Mystic74 could also be helpful incase I left anything out.
Cheers and welcome to Africa.

Re: Burundi general aviation? I will be moving to bujumbura in the near future and I am wondering if anyone knows anything about the general aviation community there. Apparently there is flying club with one airplane avalaible.
I would like to know if there is any hanger space avaliable? How would I go about shipping a plane from the States to Bujumbura? Can I buy an airplane in Nairobi and fly it to Bujumbura?
I have never flown in africa so any advice you can give me is very appreciated. Thanks
With regard to buying an aircraft, Kenya's great but you might like to look in South Africa as well, there are some very good aircraft for sale here. If you need the names of some dealers send me an e-mail and I'll send you the details. By the way, I'm not a dealer so will not gain anything if you buy from one of the guys I send you.
As dear old Queen Victoria said "Flying in AFRICA is not for sissy's"
ATC in the bigger countries is fine but is lacking in some of the smaller ones. English isn't everybody's 1st language so sometimes communications can be a little strained - just keep your cool and you'll be OK. :? :?
Some of the countries insist on prior clearence before flying into them - this can be a problem but again there are companies that specialise in this sort of thing, rather pay them to sort permissions out for you, you'll save yourself a lot of grey hair and an ulcer. Bribery is rife so be prepared for this (US dollars only)
However, despite all the negatives, flying in Africa is a great adventure, the scenery is fantastic and the weather is generally OK
Sometimes getting a weather forecast is difficult.
This is a place where you'll really learn about flying. 8) 8)
