A fire at Cape Town International Airport today delayed some flights, but caused no injuries, the Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) said. The fire started in the kitchen of News Cafe in the international terminal at 8.15am said Deidre Hendricks, the Acsa spokesperson.
The cause of the fire was not known and no injuries were reported. Passengers and staff were evacuated while a rescue team doused the flames. "ACSA deeply regrets the delay in the processing of passengers as a result of this incident, but the safety of airport users is always our priority," said George Uriesi, the general manager of the airport.
Meanwhile a mop up operation delayed other flights at the airport. An investigation into the cause of the fire was also launched, Hendricks said. - Sapa
