Kano Airport's runway 24 closed Hi there,
runway 24 of Mallam Aminu Kano Int. Airport in Kano, Nigeria will be closed for some time due to damage after a bushfire.
It is said to be caused by a Bellview Airlines Boeing 747 (Reg.: 5N-BFX) that had to make an emergency landing three minutes after take-off, because one engine caught fire. It is said that a ball of fire dropped into the grass, causing the bushfire.
Some transformers, cables and other electronics of the runway were damaged.
The airline however denies that its aircraft is responsible for the fire.
The airport itself will not be closed. Runway 06 is still working.
Cheers,
Felix

Please note that Bellview only flies 737-200. Nigerian newspapers tend to exagerate the size of the domestic aviation sector.
