KQ's 4th 772ER Delivered
The new aircraft will join KQ’s three B-777s in service on existing routes and new destinations in Europe, the Far East and in Africa. The 320-seater aircraft carries 30 tonnes of cargo with full passenger loads. "While the B-777 is itself a major commercial purchase and a major commitment between Boeing and KQ, it will also pay dividends far into the future and not just for the revenues and bottom line of KQ,’ Slutz said. KQ received the first B777 – 200ER in 2004 with the second and third of the model type entering service in 2005. The company has an option for a fifth plane at a cost of $ 150 million (Sh10.5 billion). KQ has so far spent more than $440 million (Sh31 billion) for the four aircraft. Full story courtesy of East African Standardhttp://www.eastandard.net/hm_news/news.php?articleid=1143965218 I wouldn't be surprised if they exercised the option for the fifth one as the 772ER has been very successful at KQ. Cheers, Walter.

another good news for Kenya Air. Hum KQ i ask a question. in 2003 or 2004 KQ planned to open flights to Miami via Entebbe, why KQ has canceled the project to fly to US ? Furthemore with a big fleet of 767s and 777s now KQ can easly to serve US airport. cheers RS

Furthemore with a big fleet of 767s and 777s now KQ can easly to serve US airport. cheers RS There were consultations with the Miami Airport officials and IIRC, part of the conditions for access required KQ to break its successful partnership with KLM (in return for financing to acquire aircraft to service the route or something like that in addition to the rights to fly to the US). KQ of course logically rejected this proposal. Additionally, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is not FAA Category 1 thus ruling our direct flights to the US from NBO. The Kenya Airports Authority is working on this and hopefully should achieve FAA Category 1 in 2007. In my view, there are other destinations that would provide higher yields for KQ other than Miami. Atalanta and New York come to mind. I don't think Miami will be viable in the long term. I think we will see KQ consider US flights in circa 2008. Cheers, Walter
