New Ethopian airport in Somali Land
Hi there, the Ethiopian Airports Organization disclosed that it has started the construction of a modern airport at a cost of over 54 million birr in Jijiga town, Somali State. It will boost a 90 meter wide and 2. 5kms long airfield and building work was already started in the middle of May this year. The airport, which is expected to get finalized in two years and two months, will have the capacity to jets such as Boeing 737. Cheers, Felix

That is interesting news. What was the incentive for the Ethiopian Airports Organization to build the airport in Somaliland? Will they run it once it is complete or will they hand it over to the SOmaliland authorities?

It is not unusal for airport companies to be involved in foreign projects. I know that the Frankfurt Airport company Fraport has invested in more than four or five airport worldwide. Felix

:( I am sad because you guys do not know where Jijjiga is. it is part of Ethiopia and it is in the Somali Region of Ethiopian territory not Somalia. I am very sorry for that. Luckily you cleared up the mistake. But it can be quite confusing sometimes... Felix

Accept my apologies too and thanks for the Geography lesson :D Hope to see you back soon and become a member of the forum. There are two really confusing terms, Jijjiga and jijiga. One is somalian and one is ethipiopian as you have rightly pointed out. Guess that's where all the confusion came from.
