SAA for JNB-ORD and CPT-MIA
Hi guys Just read in the TNW that SAA will drop ATL before year end and swop it for ORD(Chicago), and still thinking of CPT-MIA?? Anyone know anything else? Eway

Why would they drop ATL and leave that market to DL's impending ATL-JNB service? Are the loads not that good (which would be hard to believe considering DL's impending launch of the service)? Cheers, Walter.

Why would they drop ATL and leave that market to DL's impending ATL-JNB service? Are the loads not that good (which would be hard to believe considering DL's impending launch of the service)? ATL is not a StarAlliance hub whereas the likes of EWR and IAD are (hence SA's JNB-ACC-IAD flight).

SAA in North America
Just to fill you guys in on what is happening: Delta have cancelled their agreement with SAA, thus ending codesharing on JNB-DAK-JFK AND JNB-SID-ATL. This is what will be happening on each route: JNB-SID-ATL SAA will stop very soon. Delta will take over the route with 767/777 aircraft although probably not daily. SAA will not codeshare on the Delta flights. SAA sees no market without the connections to the rest of the USA via Delta. Most notably, Delta will fly via Dakar and compete with SAA on the DAK-USA leg and the DAK-JNB leg! JNB-DAK-JFK SAA will continue this route daily. Codeshare with United highly probable since United does have a large schedule from JFK. JNB-ACC-IAD SAA will move to daily service as soon as Atalnta ends. Full codeshare with United. Other routes: MIA not likely since SAA will find it difficult to sustain without connections. STAR allicence have little representation in Miami and so this is a non-starter. Most likely replacement for Atlanta is Chicago although SAA is worried that it will compete with its other North Eastern USA services. Most likely outcome: 3 or 4 times weekly service to O'Hare!

Hi Evanb, welcome to the forum and thanks a million for the detailed update :) Cheers, Walter.

Welcome, enjoy your time here! I have just read that Delta wants to fly daily, using B777 aircraft in a 50 Business and 218 Economy class configuration. Cheers, Felix

Delta Route to JIA
Hi , Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but here is the link for the Delta Press release. http://news.delta.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=10075 When I was at the Zimbali conference , I met the lady who is the Delta country manager. In fact most of the SA country airline management were there as well. VERY fascinating.

As I suggested a couple of months back: SAA will discontinue services to ATL and instead operate daily to IAD. No news yet on ORD. Interestingly there is an equipment change to A340! I think this is to do with 5th freedom rights that they were expected for the ACC-IAD leg which have not ben granted and have forced SA to stop in DAK instead! The SAA release in I-Net Bridge: South African Airways will introduce a daily service on its route between Johannesburg and Washington-Dulles International airport. As a result, it will discontinue its daily service to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International airport. The airline's route between Johannesburg and Washington was launched at the end of June 2005 with four flights a week, including an operational fuel stop in Accra, Ghana. South African Airways' new daily service from Johannesburg will now feature a brief stop in Dakar, Senegal, offering passengers the opportunity to connect to points throughout West Africa. To service the expanded schedule, SAA will introduce its flagship Airbus 340 aircraft on the route, replacing the Boeing 747-400. SAA was recently inducted as a member of the global Star Alliance network. The new daily service between Johannesburg and Washington will more closely align the airline with fellow Star Alliance carrier United Airlines. -- I-Net Bridge

September to Chicago???
Hi Guys Heard via SAA grapevine that SAA might start ORD in September? can anyone confirm this?????????

SA744- 07-17-2006

Hello all will SAA need to upgrade the fleet with all the extra flights they want to \"possibly\" start flying or they going to wait to get there 343 back from jet airways

evanb- 07-18-2006

No, there is plenty of space capacity, mostly of 342 and 744, now that ATL is off the schedule, they cancelled 7x weekly to ATL and only added 3x weekly to IAD!

Delta has received approval from the SA authorities, still waiting for authority from Senegal!
