Storm damge at JNB Storm damages Jhb airport

Johannesburg - Two South African Airways (SAA) aircraft and parts of the Johannesburg International Airport's car park and arrivals hall were damaged in a storm that whipped through parts of Gauteng on Monday night, the Airports Company of SA said on Tuesday.
"Two SAA aircraft, the size of a Boeing 737, were slightly damaged when ground handling equipment was blown into the aircraft during the high winds," said communications manager Solomon Makgale.
No flights were delayed or diverted, but three pieces of corrugated iron sheeting blew off the multi-storey car park and 18 pieces of prefabricated acoustic ceiling panels fell off during vibrations caused by the storm.
We had some seriously strong (93 km/h at times) winds here (Jo'burg) on Monday night - really strange for this part of the world. Second time an SAA aircraft has been damaged in freak weather this year - ZS-SJA was nearly w/o in a similar incident at JNB in Jan/Feb.

Luckily nobody was in the way during the storm. It seems to be storm season worldwide.

The weather has been throwing tantrums recently. Glad nobody was injured and no aircraft was extensively damaged.

I also remember some fotos of the storm in the beginning of this year, when a 737 was seriously damaged!
